Our goal is to have 90% of students reading, writing, and performing math at grade level in the next 10 years. 70% may be our nation's standard but it is not good enough. Right now, we have schools in this country that have only 10% of their 3rd grade students reading at grade level. This should be criminal. These schools are stealing the possibility of a prosperous future from the students they have failed to teach to read. Children fail in school because we as adults have failed to give them every tool they need to succeed. Our first priority is to help the lowest scoring elementary schools to help bring equity to the schools.
