I am a young British soldier who is serving in Afghanistan. This place is quite dangerous and we get to spend very few hours resting. Even when one is resting, s/he is always alert because anything might happen which might require you get back to your duty station. This is quite tasking for most of us. However there is one thing which gives us some semblance of normalcy. This is the ability to watch UK TV abroad. Watching UK TV makes us feel as though we were at home.
I am thankful that our superiors thought it would be good for us to have UK TV abroad. At times I find myself drawn into the on-goings in the TV even when I am at my duty station. I would like to say that watching the TV even when at my duty station does not compromise my performance at work. I am always alert, as my attention is usually more on protecting our lives.
